RWE & TURCAS POWER
Turcas Holding and RWE AG of Germany established a joint venture company in 2009, namely RWE & Turcas Güney Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. (RWE & Turcas Power), to invest, own and operate an 800 MW natural gas fired combined cycle power plant in Denizli, an inner Aegean industrial city of Türkiye.
800 MW Denizli CCPP (Plant) was commissioned on June 22, 2013 thanks to a 600 Million Euro investment made by the JV partners. The Plant has the capacity to generate 6+ Billion kWh of electricity per annum. It is one of the most efficient power plants in Turkiye and has one of the highest availability and reliability rates. With its production flexibility, the Plant responds flawlessly to the load-up/load-down instructions of the system operator TEİAŞ and supports the grid and supply security. Also operating in the ancillary service markets with its production flexibility, the Plant is one of the main service providers of TEİAŞ in the secondary frequency control task. Additionally, it is one of the active power plants in the market that uses different trading channels with bilateral agreements and day-ahead/intra-day market transactions. The Plant successfully manages regulatory and commercial risks encountered in the electricity market and continues to meet the national power demand with utmost efficiency through the years and hence playing an important role in Türkiye’s security of power supply. Within the scope of the Plant’s Occupational Health and Safety measures, no lost time incidents occurred in 2024.
RWE & Turcas Power owns a 100% subsidiary, namely RWE & Turcas Doğal Gaz İthalat ve İhracat A.Ş. (RWE & Turcas Gas), which was established in 2012 in order to manage and optimize the gas supply operations of the Plant. RWE & Turcas Gas possesses a Spot Gas Import License. RWE & Turcas Gas closely monitors the opportunities that arise in the natural gas markets.
In June 2024, Turcas Holding announced RWE & Turcas Power’s final investment decision for a 20 MW Hybrid Solar Power Plant that would be located adjacent to its 800 MW Denizli CCPP. RWE & Turcas Power had its Electricity Generation License capacity amended by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority to rise to 820 MW to include this new investment. 20 MW Hybrid Solar Power Plant is expected to be commissioned mid-2026.
